Flower Mountain × Staple: The Collaboration That Brings Together Japanese Outdoor Wear and New York Streetwear

Flower Mountain × Staple: where Japanese outdoor heritage meets New York street culture

Some collaborations make sense the moment you hear about them. Others make you wonder why it took so long.

The Flower Mountain × Staple capsule is the second kind. Two brands with strong, well-defined identities — seemingly worlds apart — that share something deeper than aesthetics: a genuine belief that design should mean something beyond the object itself.

We carry it at Moksín because we believe a sneaker can tell a story. This one tells two.

What is Flower Mountain and where does it come from?

Flower Mountain was founded in 2015 out of the friendship between Keisuke Ota, from Tokyo, and Yang Chao, from Beijing — two people brought together by a shared love of mountain trekking, camping and footwear.

The name comes from a specific moment: climbing Mount Fuji, they came across a vast field of blooming dandelions. In their own words, that was the instant everything fell into place — the direction, the identity, the logo. Nature didn't just inspire the brand. It became it.

The idea behind Flower Mountain is straightforward but solid: build a sneaker that genuinely works between city and outdoor environments — not a hiking shoe dressed up as a trainer, and not a lifestyle sneaker with a few trail references thrown in. Both things at once, without forcing it.

Why does a Flower Mountain and Staple collab make sense?

Jeff Staple started Staple in New York City in 1997, screen-printing t-shirts in his spare time. What began as a small creative project grew into one of the most influential names in global streetwear.

The brand's signature is its Pigeon logo — one of the most recognised symbols in sneaker culture. Staple has collaborated with Nike, New Balance, Timberland, Autry and Porsche, among others. It's not a brand chasing hype. Its value lies in visual consistency and in building partnerships that actually mean something.

Bringing together Flower Mountain's Japanese outdoor aesthetic and Jeff Staple's urban visual language, this capsule fuses two very different design worlds — connecting nature, street culture and a contemporary sensibility that feels entirely its own. This isn't a surface-level aesthetic exercise. It's a genuine dialogue between two ways of thinking about design.

Flower Mountain's collaboration history backs that up: Universal Works, Walter Van Beirendonck, Nicholas Daley and Barbour are among the names they've worked with. Staple fits that same mould — brands with a real point of view and something to say.

JEFF STAPLE - FLOWER MOUNTAIN

The sneaker: Yamano 3 UNI × Staple

The centrepiece of this capsule is the Yamano 3 UNI — one of Flower Mountain's most iconic silhouettes, reimagined through Staple's visual language.

The Yamano 3 is probably the model that best captures what Flower Mountain is about: technical nylon upper with suede inserts, mixed leather and textile lining, antibacterial natural cork insole and a toothed rubber outsole with solid grip. A construction that balances function and aesthetics without compromising either.

In the Staple version, that technical base is reinterpreted through a very specific, considered colour palette: light grey technical mesh combined with panels in dark grey suede with a military green undertoneCoral pink accents appear on the side closure straps, the heel counter and the outsole — providing the chromatic tension that defines the shoe. The most striking and distinctive detail is the bottle green tongue tab, a hit of colour that anchors the whole design and gives it a character of its own.

The laces are cream trekking-style braided cord, true to the Yamano 3's outdoor DNA. The cream midsole with a speckled effect — dark flecks throughout — adds visual texture and leads into the red, toothed traction outsole. On the side panel, the embroidered "STAPLE" label and the Flower Mountain logo moulded into the midsole are the only two brand elements — understated and well-integrated.

The packaging is part of the experience: a kraft box with tissue paper printed with both brands' logos in coral pink. The kind of unboxing you actually remember.

Retail price is €240, consistent with Flower Mountain's positioning in the premium end of the independent sneaker market.

How is the Yamano 3 × Staple different from the original?

It's the most common question, and it has a clear answer. The standard Yamano 3 comes in multiple colourways, typically working with more neutral or natural palettes of suede and nylon. The Staple version isn't just a different colourway — it's a complete visual reinterpretation, with a palette designed specifically for this collaboration, exclusive graphic details, the Staple embroidered label on the side panel and custom packaging that doesn't exist on the regular model. It's, in essence, a collector's piece within the Yamano 3 line. And as a limited edition, once it's gone, it's gone.

Why it belongs at Moksín

The kind of piece that still makes sense in a wardrobe years from now.

Frequently asked questions about Flower Mountain × Staple

Who is Jeff Staple and why does he matter in sneaker culture?

Jeff Staple is the founder of Staple, one of the most influential names in global streetwear since 1997. His iconic Pigeon logo is one of the most recognised symbols in sneaker culture. He's collaborated with Nike, New Balance, Timberland, Autry and Porsche, among others. What sets Staple apart isn't volume — it's consistency. Every collaboration adds something to the narrative of both brands involved.

What model is featured in the Flower Mountain × Staple capsule?

The capsule is built around the Yamano 3 UNI — one of Flower Mountain's most iconic silhouettes. It's a full reinterpretation of the model with an exclusive colourway — grey, military green, coral pink and bottle green — along with collaboration-specific graphic details, the Staple embroidered label on the side panel and co-branded packaging.

What's the difference between the Yamano 3 Staple and the regular Yamano 3?

The difference goes beyond colour. The Staple version has a palette designed specifically for this collaboration, exclusive graphic details, the Staple embroidered label and custom packaging — none of which exist on the standard model. It's not just another colourway. It's a limited edition with its own distinct visual identity that won't be restocked once it sells out.

Is this a limited edition release?

Yes. As a collaboration capsule, production is limited. Once it's sold out, it won't be restocked — which makes it a collector's piece within the Flower Mountain catalogue.

Are the Flower Mountain Yamano 3 sneakers comfortable for everyday wear?

Yes — particularly if you're looking for a sneaker with more structure than a typical lifestyle trainer. The Yamano 3 features an antibacterial natural cork insole, mixed leather and textile lining, and a rubber outsole with solid grip. It's designed for long days on your feet and performs well on both pavement and uneven surfaces. More structured than a soft-soled sneaker, without sacrificing versatility or style.
